Hi, what are you looking for?

Sit in the comfort of your car and vote

The convenience of drive through democracy is provided by the Orange County Registrar to voters of South California obsessed with cars as today is the last day for registration for the elections to be held on November 4.

Eight electronic booths in the parking lot in Santa Ana will facilitate voters from Orange County to register or cast their ballot without getting off from their cars. This facility of driving through to register for voting will start at 5 p.m. and go on till midnight just outside the registrar offices situated at the corner of the McFadden avenue and Grand avenue.

According to Neal Kelly who is the registrar of voters at Orange County, this facility offered to the voters is the first of its kind. Booths are the traditional eSlate devices used all over but are shorter than the normal booths having been designed keeping disabled voters in mind. These booths are in fact made exactly to the height of the car windows which makes it easier for disabled voters to cast ballots from their cars.

Registration for voting can be done from the cars as the election officials hand over forms to be filled. These can be filled either in well lit tables laid outside or from the car itself. The number of calls asking about the drive through ballot system and early voting received by Kelley was surprising. According to Kelley, contrary to her expectations, this system seems to be catching on as people are happy with the convenience provided by this method.
