Water is no longer safe bottled or otherwise. The Environmental Working group conducted tests on bottled water to find out whether
It conformed to the rather stringent Californian health standard. They bought water of particular brands in California, north Carolina and Virginia. these batches were tested for contamination and pollutants. It was found that out of the 10 brands tested two of the brands sold by Wal-Mart and Acadia had contaminated water. The contamination levels were three times higher than the ones found acceptable by California health standards ones.
When the bottled water was sent for testing to the lab it was found that there were 38 chemicals in the water. When it was found that the water from Wal-Mart and Giant food was extra troublesome then additional tests were performed. It was found that it contained chlorine byproducts known as Trihalomethanes. These are dangerous chemicals, which are known to lead to cancer and birth defects.
The other 8 brands also had contaminants though they were within acceptable standards. Dr David Carpenter who is doing research with the Institute for Health and Environment says ‘these are levels which should not be found in bottled water”
