Xbox 360 game console is competitively placed this holiday season due to its reduced average price, which is less than $100, in the last three months according to an exclusive analysis conducted by Gamasutra. This analysis, which was done, based on the exclusive NPD data of sales in the United States was in depth and conducted by a contributor from Gamasutra Matt Mathews.
According to the section that deals with the average sales price of the Xbox 360 the drop in prices is as exciting for those who track sales and keep an eye on the market as with the consumers. The September 7th announcement by Microsoft on a considerable price cut is expected to generate a good amount of sales.
According to the announcements, prices of Xbox 360 Arcade were slashed to $200 from $280. The Xbox 360 premium was slashed to $300 from $350 while the Xbox Elite was brought down to $400 from $450.
This price cut went in favor of Microsoft, which saw sales of 69,000 systems on a weekly basis in the month of September. While the launch price of the Xbox 360 in July 2008 was $376, the month of August saw prices reduced to a range between $330 and $340. According to the NPD group, sale price further fell to $276, which is about a $100 lesser than the launch price.
A software library that is significantly deep and a low entry level price as compared to its competitors Sony PlayStation and Nintendo Wii, Microsoft is poised for big sales this coming holiday season.
