Microsoft announced that there was a hundred percent increase in the retail sales of the Xbox 360 after their considerable slash in the prices for the second time this week. Prices of the Xbox were reduced upto $80 according to the model sold.
Xbox 360, according to a statement from Microsoft packs a punch in entertainment for every dollar you spend on it and is by far the most reasonably priced console available in the market today. Priced at only $199, Microsoft says this is one of the most affordable electronic devices available to consumers.
This is good news for Microsoft as the Xbox 360 sales during the first half of the year was lagging behind PlayStation 3 for the second slot. Nintendo Wii continues to dominate this market since the year 2006.
Prices of the “Arcade” base model was brought down from $279 to $199. Price of “Pro” was brought down to $299 and “Elite” to $399. Microsoft has expertly timed its price cut just before the oncoming holiday season. As compared to Nintendo Wii’s sale price of $249 and 80 GB Sony PlayStation’s retail price of $399, Microsoft has brought down the Xbox 360 prices to a competitive level. In fact this is the cheapest console now in the market.
According to industry reviews, in spite of this huge price cut, Xbox 360 may yet find it hard to compete with PlayStation 3. This is due to PS3’s inbuilt Blu Ray player which is one of the best in the industry as against Microsoft’s alliance with HD DVD
