Milford, CT – A serious crash along the northbound lanes of I-95 in Milford Monday, June 12, 2010, resulted in two people being hospitalized for injuries, as reported by The Hartford Courant. The accident occurred shortly after 5 a.m.
State police reported the accident involved three tractor trailers. The Milford fire department told reporters that the accident happened after one tractor trailer rear-ended a tanker truck. A third tractor trailer was struck as a result of the initial impact.
The driver of the second trailer was pinned in his cab and had to be extricated from the crash. Upon being removed from the cab, he was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital. Another driver was taken to Yale as well, for minor injuries, according to the fire department.
One lane of I-95 was temporarily opened to traffic at approximately 6:30 a.m. Within an hour though, the lane was closed again.
Traffic remained heavy for miles behind the scene of the accident. State Police diverted travelers off the highway and through Milford via Route 1. The reroute caused serious delays as well, as traffic backed up through the town.
The fire department reported the tanker was carrying a non-flammable latex. Some of the material spilled onto the highway. Approximately 150 gallons of diesel fuel spilled as well.
