Washington, DC – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced through a press release on Wednesday, May 19, 2010, that it, in cooperation with Primal Vantage Co., Inc, of Randolph NJ has issued a voluntary recall of Ameristep Plastic Strap-On Tree Steps.

Primal Vantage Co., Inc, is recalling approximately 17,800 items total, 16,000 of which were previously recalled in January.

The steps pose a fall hazard to the user, as the plastic portion can break. Primal Vantage received six complaints of steps breaking, including two complaints where users were bruised and cut.

The product is described as, “a plastic tree step that attaches to a tree via a nylon strap and large metal buckle. It is used to climb a tree in order to hunt from an elevated position. Models 105 and 155 both have either a 10/08 or 12/08 date code, which is stamped on the plastic portion of the step.”

Items containing one of either of the two date codes, 12/08 and 10/08 are printed on all the recalled items.

The products were sold from December 2008 through November 2009 in various outdoors and sporting goods stores throughout the nation. They came in either a three-step package in model 105 or as a single-step package in model 155.

Consumers are advised to cease using the tree steps immediately. Customers are also told to contact the manufacturer in order to obtain a full refund for the product. Consumers are further asked not to return the products to the place of purchase, as refunds will only be provided through Primal Vantage.

For extra information, consumers are told to contact Primal Vantage at (866) 972-6168 between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday. Information is also available at the company’s website at www.treestandcustomerservice.com.
