Goa police is likely to leave the charges made against Atanasio Monserrate, the state education minister’s son Rohit for raping a minor tourist aged 14 years from Germany. The police has also told in the affidavit of the Bombay High Court’s Panaji bench that there are actually no powerful proof and evidences against Rohit and his father. The local police further added that its investigation was basically based on the opinions provided by the prosecution directorate in which the case was formally sent for an opinion.
The police earlier named the state education minister as the abettor in this rape case due to the cheap and vulgar messages received by that raped tourist girl, persuading her to abort her child with the help of smoking and drinking binge. These messages were sent from the mobile number that was issued in Monserrate’s name. Earlier this Tuesday, Panaji bench also asked the police of Goa to file in a period of just a week the charge sheets against minister’s son. The Panaji bench comprising Nelson Britto and SB Majumdar told Subodh Kantak, the Advocate General to direct police to make the charge sheet.
The court has even pulled up the police of Goa for the shoddy investigation regarding this case and has also asked the officers to do something better. But this time, the police is being blamed to shield Rohit and it has been reported by the mother of the innocent victim that the administration and police are collectively conspiring to make sure that the minister’s son is not arrested. The German girl’s mother had also accused Rohit for sexually abusing the young daughter. Later, the minor girl’s mother even named Warren, the nephew of Churchill Alemao, Public Works Department Minister to be involved in this case. Rohit was arrested on 4th November after the culprit surrendered before the police station in Calangute.
