[youtube id=”8gbbQtt_FBU”] Have you ever watched a fashion show on TV, or looked at a model and thought, “wow they must really have a wonderful life.” Well Madhur Bhandarkar’s latest offering to the Bollywood industry, ‘Fashion’, proves that the life of a model is not as glamorous as it may seem.
Madhur Bhandarkar is not new to making realistic and meaningful cinema, but the question is, does ‘Fashion’ live up to the created hype, extensive promotion, and high budget that it was made on? The answer is yes!
The film is the simple story of a small town girl named Meghna Mathur(Priyanka Chopra) who moves to the big city with big dreams to make a name for herself in the fashion world. Along the way she meets many influential people including a business tycoon who runs the fashion world,(Arbaaz Khan), a drug addict supermodel(Kangana Ranaut), and a fellow aspiring model(Mughda Godse). While she does make it big, along the way she realizes that fame comes with a price to pay, that also a very heavy one.
While the story may seem simple, its the way the movie is put together that makes it work. Bhandarkar’s past films have been so very real but lack in the entertainment department. ‘Fashion’ entertains you, but also shocks you with a hard hitting message. There are many scenes which have been handled so magnificently that will definitely leave an impression after you have watched the movie. Some of these being:
The Confrontation between Kangana and Priyanka
The scene where Priyanka cannot recognize herself in the mirror
Priyanka’s first fashion show
The wardrobe malfunction
The brilliant climax
While Bhandarkar’s previous films have lacked in the music department, ‘Fashion’ boasts of amazing music, the pick of the lot being, ‘Jalwa’, ‘Mar Jaavan’, and ‘Aashiyana’. The background score also complements the movie flawlessly.
Performances are indeed first rate. Mughda makes a brilliant debut and handles her role with utter confidence. Although, Kangana has played similar roles before in films like ‘Woh Lamhe’ and ‘Gangster’ she too leaves an impression. However the ‘show-stopper’ has to be Priyanka Chopra. After her brilliant Filmfare award winning role in Aitraaz, this is the first time the actress is in top form again! The supporting cast is sufficient, Arbaaz Khan, and Sameer Soni being the best.
Overall, ‘Fashion’ is indeed an enjoyable film. It will leave an impression however it will also entertain you! A must watch
