The 50th Anniversary TEXAS Alumni Reunion Committee has announced Reunion Night, as part of the two-day event for the cast, crew, and company members who have served, produced and performed for millions of patrons from around the world. Reunion Night, an event over a year in the making, will take place at the Pioneer Amphitheatre in Palo Duro Canyon State Park on Saturday, July 18th 2015.

“Hundreds of former company members are attending. In fact, many of the alumni from the very early days are returning for the first time”, says Former Executive Director and Producer of the show, Bill Anderson, who is working closely with the Reunion Committee.  It is reported that hotel rooms in the greater Canyon, Texas area are already sold out for the weekend of July 17 and 18.

Gene Vaughn Morrison, Chairman of the Reunion Committee, and says, “Millions of fans from around the world have come to see TEXAS, the Official Play of the State of Texas. Now, we are thrilled to host this once-in-a-lifetime gathering of some of the most dynamic people who have shaped 50 years of this legendary show!”

Morrison, who has been involved with TEXAS since its inception 50 years ago, continues, “Our original founder, Margaret Harper, is rejoicing from the best seat in the heavens.  Her dream has lasted 50 years, through incredible times and unimaginable hardships. But just like the early pioneers of the Panhandle of Texas the show portrays, the show has persevered.”

A long-running show like TEXAS is not without its passionate and notable alumni. Former cast member Ron DeVoe reflects, “Appearing in the TEXAS Musical Drama was actually a life changing moment for me and many of those cast members from previous decades. The reliance of every member of the cast and crew on each other instilled responsibility, teamwork and comradery.”  While some performers from TEXAS have gone on to perform on Broadway, the MET, with premier dance companies, regional theaters and on TV and in film, countless other TEXAS “Exes” continually demonstrate their talents in business, education, in churches and in respective communities.

TEXAS Outdoor Musical is written by Pulitzer Prize winner Paul Green and tells the timeless story of the early settlers of the Panhandle of Texas through song, dance, and special effects while being performed in the unmatched beauty of a natural amphitheater in the picturesque Palo Duro Canyon State Park.

The show’s success has been felt worldwide.  “Every performance, we honor each audience member who traveled the furthest by presenting them with a replica chow call triangle. In our 50 years, it always been received by a patron from a country other than the United States.  This show is a world-wide phenomenon nobody ever expected,” says Mr. Morrison.
