Ft. Lauderdale, FL – Two female teenage cousins, aged 14 and 16, testified in a Broward County court Tuesday, May 25, 2010, against a man accused of making inappropriate sexual advances toward them during tabla drum lessons at a Hindu temple in Southwest Ranches, as reported by the Sun Sentinel.
The girls’ music teacher, Sandeep Munshi, faces charges ranging form sexual battery to molestation and lewd or lascivious exhibition, and the possibility of life in prison if found guilty. He will face two trials; one for each girl.
The 14-year-old claims Munshi, 46, kissed and molested her and made her perform oral sex on numerous occasions.
The 16-year-old girl said the teacher asked her to bare her chest and asked her for a kiss. She reportedly declined his advances and told her father immediately of the incident.
The testimony of the older cousin prompted the 14-year-old to come forward about her abuse, according to reports. Court documents report her saying, “I felt scared. I felt that nobody would believe me. I felt that he had power over me. I just felt I couldn’t do anything.”
The girl’s mother and attorney have deduced that the abuse occurred between May 1, 2006 and June 30, 2007, when she was between the ages of 11 and 12.
Tuesday’s testimonies were in regards to the first trial Munshi will face in June. According to Broward Circuit Judge Jeffrey Levenson, the June 6 trial will pertain to the youngest girl’s allegations and a jury will hear from both girls.
During the testimonies, Munshi, who was dressed in jailhouse scrubs, muttered to him self and shook his head.
