Giving out a powerful message regarding the recent attacks of terror, Manmohan Singh, the Prime Minister of India declared that there is no terrorist, no coward or no enemy of India’s democratic and secular republic that can ever gain success in damaging the unity of this nation. The Prime Minister was duly inaugurating the anniversary celebrations of Indian Institute of Science.
Dr. Singh, making a certain reference about the attacks on this institute about three years back, commented that the ruthless terrorists targeted this Indian Institute of Science as this brilliant institution and the lively city of Bangalore have actually come forward to highlight the true state of resurgent India. The PM also paid a tribute to M.C. Puri, the professor who was killed at that time.
Addressing the researchers and scientists after the dedication of the C.N.R Rao Hall of Science and the International Centre for Materials Science, Dr. Manmohan Singh reported that the self-governing board will promote the basic researching in engineering and science. Also, it will be offering unregulated financial aid to the academic institutions, industrial concerns, research laboratories and researchers. Repeating the commitment by the government to almost double the monetary allocation of technology and science to about 2 % of GDP, the Prime Minister ordered for blueprint in order to make the basic mathematics and science a preferred discipline of the young.
Dr. Singh also noted that various outstanding engineers who had earlier migrated to the regions of West were now returning because they wished to be an integral part of the “growth story” of India. He also stressed his opinion about the need to create a similar environment in order to drive attention of the Indian scientists from the international nations to take active part in this research. India will need a large step-up investment for basic sciences in order to be on the top-ranking of scientific countries.
