In this episode of the Growing Our Future podcast, Aaron introduces Alejandro to Les Hudson, Education Specialist at the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and Statewide Coordinator for Agriculture, Nutrition and Natural Resources (AFNR). TEA has six degree programs offering approximately 60 courses for high school students. Courses are designed to enable students to work specifically in the varied Texas landscape.
TEA’s mission is to create career and college ready employees in the fields of agribusiness; zoology, animal science; Applied Agricultural Engineering, Environment and Natural Resources, Food Science and Technology, and Plant Science. According to Hudson, the CTE agriculture program is designed to “ensure that every student has an opportunity to do what they want to do when they leave school [high].” Students acquire the skills to progress to post-secondary education or begin their careers. He added, “It’s a huge win for everyone.”
