The number of migrants who died in San Antonio, Texas after being abandoned in a blisteringly hot trailer rose to 53 on Wednesday, US immigration officials said.

Eleven others remained receiving treatment at local hospitals, Immigration and Customs Enforcement said, without specifying their conditions.

That was as of Tuesday, when local officials put the death toll at 51, including 39 men and 12 women.

According to Francisco Garduno, head of Mexico’s National Migration Institute, the dead included 27 Mexicans, 14 Hondurans, seven Guatemalans and two Salvadorans.

The nationalities of the other three have not yet been announced.

San Antonio police were first alerted to the trailer by an emergency call around 5:50 p.m. local time (2250 GMT) Monday.

A worker near a remote San Antonio road heard a call for help and went to examine the trailer and found several bodies inside.

Federal police officers arrested two men Tuesday at the address linked to the trailer truck’s registration, court documents showed.

Juan Francisco D’Luna-Bilbao and Juan Claudio D’Luna-Mendez, both Mexican nationals whose US tourist visas had expired, were allegedly in possession of multiple firearms illegally.

A third person suspected of being the driver of the semi-truck was arrested nearby while she was “very high on meth,” local daily San Antonio Express-News reported, citing a police officer.
