One of the most significant changes to the way business has been conducted in the past decade is the development and growth of digital marketing as a mainstream business practice. According to Brad Yasar and Frank Frausto, the CEO and the CMO of Beyond Enterprizes, respectively, this shift has reshaped the process of creating and expanding a brand, as well as reaching potential customers. Their company, which is a strategic advisory firm, touts digital marketing as a significant improvement for businesses trying to make a name for themselves without spending millions on name recognition.

“When I was younger, before the days of digital marketing, I used to DJ at a local club, and the way that we marketed was by printing out a ton of pieces of paper and handing them out,” Yasar said. “You would only know if you were successful in your marketing efforts if a lot of people showed up that night. With digital marketing, you can do a test drive by spending very little money and seeing which demographics of people are most likely to interact with your product, allowing you to focus your marketing efforts and capital on those who are interested in it.”

Frausto likened digital marketing to the idea of showing one driver who is interested in a product a billboard containing it at the exact second he drives by.

“When it comes to digital marketing, the three things that are the most important are data, attribution, and speed,” says Frausto. “Data is king. Through cookies and other processes, you can gain information about users that you would never have before, and it truly allows you to improve your messaging and market to an audience of one. Additionally, the speed at which you receive all of this information is incredible. You get a feedback loop of who is interacting with your ad almost immediately.”

Perhaps the most significant aspect of this is the level playing field it creates for small businesses, who previously lacked the resources to successfully build a brand traditionally, according to Yasar.

“[Digital marketing] has really democratized small businesses and startups,’ Yasar said. “It used to cost nearly 100k to test a product and advertising used to be a “big boys game,” and now you can do it by spending as little as 20 dollars and getting feedback on exactly who interacted with your product.”
