HM King Mohammed VI, launched on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 several landmark projects to improve the aquaculture development of the southern city of Dakhla and provide sustainable solutions to the lack of water infrastructure.
Thus, the King inaugurated in the Dakhla-Oued Ed-dahab region, the “Azura Aquaculture” farm. This aquaculture project, which required an overall budget of 81 million dirhams, is part of the national Halieutis strategy, developed in accordance with the high guidelines of HM the King and aimed at upgrading the different stages of the value chain of the fisheries sector and improving its competitiveness and performance.
The Sovereign also launched in Dakhla a large-scale drinking water project and a new wastewater treatment plant.
Benefiting more than 106,000 inhabitants, the drinking water project required a total budget of 250 million dirhams and provides for complementary works of demineralization at the existing treatment plant with a flow of 9,500 m3/day.
For its part, the sanitation project (245 million dirhams) aims to provide sustainable solutions to the urbanization challenges. It is also meant to enhance the tourist attractiveness of the city, preserve the ecosystems and promote the socio-economic development of the region.
All of these projects are part of the new development model of the southern provinces, launched by the Sovereign on the occasion of the fortieth anniversary of the Green March, which aims to improve the living conditions of inhabitants and provide an appropriate response to sustainability issues.
