Mohawk Flooring Ranks as Southeast’s No. 5 Most Sustainable Company

Manufacturer Tops All Regional Competitors for Fourth Straight Year

01/02/2015 (press release: CambridgePRGroup) // Burlington, Massachusetts // A.J. Rose Carpets & Flooring

Mohawk flooring has solidified its impressive reputation for environmental friendliness this year, first landing as the top flooring manufacturer in the 2014 Newsweek Green Rankings, then doing the same in the recently released 2014 Southeastern Corporate Sustainability Rankings. In the latter, the Georgia-based company not only bested its industry competitors in the region for the fourth straight year, but it also rose six spots overall from 2013 to become the No. 5 most sustainable company in the Southeast.

Within the Peach State, Mohawk flooring jumped one spot to No. 2 this year, topping fellow Georgia company Delta Air Lines in the Southeastern Corporate Sustainability Rankings. Determined by CRD Analytics, the rankings evaluate publicly traded companies in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee that have a minimum market capitalization of $500 million. Each company’s score is based on 141 qualitative and quantitative performance metrics related to environmental, social and governance initiatives.

“As the world’s largest flooring company, Mohawk has a big responsibility to create products and policies that have a minimum impact on the environment, and it has met that challenge and then some,” said Barry Greenberg, retail sales manager at A.J. Rose Carpets & Flooring, a Mohawk flooring dealer with locations in Burlington, Natick and Saugus, Mass. “We’re proud to sell Mohawk’s flooring products to our customers because they are just as eco friendly as they are stylish, comfortable and durable.”

About 500 of Mohawk’s products are made with some form of recycled material, helping the company divert about 3 billion pounds of pre- and post-consumer waste from landfills each year. Roughly 3 billion plastic bottles are reclaimed by Mohawk annually to manufacture its EverStrand carpet and other home products, while the energy-efficient production of its SmartStrand with DuPont Sorona carpet saves the equivalent of one gallon of gasoline for every 7 square yards produced. Of Mohawk’s 10 ceramic-tile factories in the United States, six of the facilities recover and reuse all of their process wastewater.
