BarCamp Tampa Bay Ready for Its 7th Year!

The “go-to” event for tech professionals, developers, web designers, entrepreneurs, starttups, and tech enthusiasts in the Tampa Bay area.

09/26/2014 (press release: Technova) // Tampa, FL // Brenda Young

BarCamp, an unconventional but highly anticipated tech conference, is taking place on Saturday, October 18, 2014. Since 2008, BarCamp has become the “go-to” event of the year to interact with and learn from passionate professionals in all areas of technology, internet, startups, new media and software, robotics, and more. BarCamp organizers are expecting approximately 1,000 software developers, hardware engineers, freelancers, educators and other technology professionals to converge for the day. The free daylong event will be held once again at The University of South Florida, College of Business at the university, 4202 E. Fowler Ave., in Tampa.

BarCamp uses an un-conference format which has no set agenda or speakers at the beginning of the day. The agenda is built organically and encourages community learning on the hot topics in technology.  Session presenters share knowledge, share stories about local startups, demonstrate technology or new devices, and participate in open discussions. Registration starts at 7:30 am day’s sessions start at 9:00 am and continue through 5:00 pm.

BarCamps attract developers in all programming disciplines ranging from Ruby, PHP, Linux, iOS, Android, .NET and more. In addition, BarCamp includes other key elements of the tech ecosystem including Hackerspace crew, the Tampa Bay Inventors Council, a coaches corner, wearable technology and, the robotics teams from local schools

Billed as a day to ‘Get your Geek on,’ everyone from tech professionals to passionate hobbyists will find a wealth of sessions in which to participate and, they will also find people like themselves who are interested in creating great things,” says Ken Evans, this year’s lead organizer for BarCamp.  “The region’s  tech community has grown significantly since the first BarCamp in 2008 and offshoots from these technical and business relationships have had an impact on public policy and economic development strategy throughout the area.” Our growing reputation for having a strong and visible tech community helps in retaining local technology professionals but, has also encouraged others to move here from across the county.
