Subaru Sales Stay Hot for Best-Ever July

Refreshed Outback Leads Automaker to Eighth-Straight Month of Gains

08/08/2012 (press release: CambridgePRGroup) // Canton, Conn. // Mitchell Subaru

Subaru’s U.S. sales reports are beginning to sound like a broken record of record-breaking tallies, with the Japanese automaker recently announcing its best-ever July sales and eighth-consecutive month of gains. Riding a 16-percent increase compared to July 2011, sales at Subaru dealerships totaled 25,183 vehicles last month. Year-to-date, Subaru sales have risen 23 percent compared to the same period last year, moving 189,487 units.

While the redesigned Subaru Impreza continues to impress with its performance, up 111 percent in July year-over-year, the brand’s Outback wagon remained the volume leader, selling 9,282 units for an 11-percent increase compared to the same month last year. A refreshed 2013 Subaru Outback went on sale earlier this summer, featuring an upgraded drivetrain, revised front styling and new available safety technology.

“The value that the Outback provides is highly appealing to today’s buyers, whether you’re looking at capability, safety or fuel efficiency,” said Gary Ciesco, general sales manager of Canton, CT Subaru dealer Mitchell Subaru. “The additions for the 2013 model year only serve to strengthen each of those qualities, so we expect continued sales gains for the Outback through the end of the year.”

Along with the refreshed 2013 Legacy sedan, the 2013 Subaru Outback has been outfitted with a new 2.5-liter FB Series Boxer engine that improves power and fuel efficiency over the prior unit. Even more noticeable in day-to-day driving is the powerplant’s greater low-end torque across a wide speed range, which increases responsiveness. In addition to the standard six-speed manual transmission, buyers of the 2013 Outback and Impreza can also opt for a new, second-generation Lineartronic continuously variable transmission (CVT) that allows for manual shifting with steering-wheel-mounted paddles.

The 2013 Subaru Outback and Legacy are also the first models to be available with Subaru’s new EyeSight driver-assist system, which uses affordable stereo-camera technology to effectively combine Adaptive Cruise Control, Pre-Collision Braking and Vehicle Lane Departure Warning. Aesthetically, both Subarus receive sportier headlights, grilles and front bumpers, while other enhancements underneath their sheet metal reduce body roll by up to 40 percent.

In an effort to vividly outline the 2013 changes to buyers, Subaru has released new Dynamic Digital Brochures for the latest models of the Outback and Legacy. Downloadable at Subaru.com or from a tab on the brand’s Facebook page, the virtual brochures detail the new engine, second-generation CVT and EyeSight technology, as well as provide in-depth looks at individual trims. The 2013 Outback and Impreza will also soon be receiving their own iPad apps.

“Subaru’s digital offerings cut down on waste from paper brochures, but they also help buyers get informed before they even step foot in a dealership,” Ciesco noted. “That makes it easier for us to quickly locate their ideal vehicle, and we can instead focus on finding them the best financing or lease deal.”
