Auto body shop Black & White Auto and Paint is proud to announce that they have switched from traditional solvent based paints to waterborne paints. This decision was reached in an effort to keep up with industry trends and standards, create less waste, and preserve the environment. Despite the changes, Black & White Auto is still offering the best auto paint services in the area. “Waterborne paint is just as effective as solvent-based paint when it comes to auto body repairs,” explains Rick Lujan, owner of Black & White Auto in Colorado Springs, CO. “It just takes experienced and educated staff, like ours, to show the public how well it performs.” Some may doubt the quality of waterborne paint since the problems with its application to GM cars in the late 1980s. Currently it is the paint of choice for premium auto body paint jobs and repairs.
Water based paint is becoming increasingly prevalent as the primary type of paint that factories put on new cars. Car manufacturers and auto body shops know that waterborne paint produces much less Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) emissions than solvent based paints. VOCs contain hazardous pollutants that are harmful to human health and to Earth’s atmosphere. States like California are starting to restrict and even ban the products that contain them, including some auto detailing products.

The main difference between the two types of paints is chemical: waterborne paint contains synthetic resins and low amounts of solvents.
