Orlando, FL – A 12-year-old Orange County boy was accidentally shot in the face by his 15-year-old friend on Monday, April 31, 2010, while the two were playing with a gun, as reported by the Palm Beach Post. The 12-year-old is recovering, but authorities are seeking a 19-year-old man who is suspected of handing the gun to the boys.
According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, the boys were playing with a gun inside a shed located at a home on Drake Drive off Forest City Road. The 15-year-old reportedly took the firearm from a 19-year-old. The younger boys did not think the gun was loaded.
Authorities are still unsure whether the 19-year-old found the gun in the shed or brought it with him.
Investigators reported the 15-year-old pointed the gun at the 12-year-old boy’s face and pulled the trigger.
The 19-year-old ran away from the scene and the youngest boy was rushed to Orlando Regional Medical Center after a family friend called 911.
The boy’s injuries were reported to be non-life threatening and he is expected to recover.
Investigators are looking for the eldest participant in the shooting. Once they have questioned him, they will decide what charges he will face.
