Wal-Mart is likely to sell Apple’s popular Smartphones this Christmas for $99 according to Wal-Mart employee quote to news agencies. Apparently, Apple is all geared up to sell its iPhone through the retailer giant Wal-Mart Stores.
There is a high probability that a week before Christmas will see the popular Apple iPhones on Wal-Mart shelves according to quotes from unnamed employees of Wal-Mart to popular news agencies including Bloomberg, San Jose Mercury News and Associated Press.
Wal-Mart however did not officially confirm offer of the 4-GB iPhone for $99 as was announced on the rumor sites recently. A non committal response from a spokeswoman from Wal-Mart was that there was no official offer on the iPhone at Wal-Mart yet.
At present, iPhones are offered through stores like AT&T, Best Buy, Apple, etc. If rumors come true, the fourth major retailer to sell iPhones in the United States will be Wal-Mart. AT&T, which is one of United States’ largest service provider offers the 8-GB and 16-GB iPhone models at $199 and $299 respectively. This offer comes with a compulsory AT&T subscription for $70 per month.
There is a huge potential for iPhone sales with a Wal-Mart tie up. According to Mercury News, Wal-Mart is a large retailer with Supercenters, discount stores numbering 4000 across US, Sam’s Club stores, all this with a wireless sales department.
The recent economic turndown has spread gloom all over America. Wal-Mart has been one of the few bright spots in this bleak market condition announcing a third quarter earning increase of 9.8%.
