Born Free geared for improved sales after ban of BPA containing bottles

Use of carcinogen in the manufacture of baby bottles has been banned by the Canadian government. Suppliers of products which do not use bisphenol A are gearing up for increased sales following this ban.

Regulations are being drafted by the Canadian government which will prohibit BPA containing polycarbonate baby bottles from being imported, advertised for or sold. Canada is so far the first and only country to ban products containing BPA.

Bisphenol A is a chemical which is used for hardening plastics. This chemical makes plastic sturdy, strong and shatter proof. BPA however is suspected of harming children’s health, even hindering their growth. Neurological and behavioral problems are suspected to arise in the later life of children who are exposed to this chemical in their childhood or infancy.

According to Tony Ferraro, the president of Born Free, Ontario, Canada, a lot of dealers had already taken BPA containing bottles from their shelves making the job easier as they now had to deal only with the manufacturers. He went on to say that this announcement by the health minister holding a Born Free bottle in his hand has created history of sorts and has done a lot of good for the country.

This company is one of the biggest manufacturers and wholesalers of bottles which are BPA free. Retailers including Loblaw Cos Ltd and Shoppers Drug Mart stock bottles manufactured by Born Free.

According to Ferraro, the ban on bottles containing BPA is sure to increase their sales to a great extent and the company has quadrupled its production capacity to almost a million bottles per month to be prepared for the inevitable demand.
