McCain’s ranch to receive cellular service from Verizon and ATT

Temporary communication towers have been installed at the ranch belonging to Senator John McCain situated at Arizona by two of the prominent service providers AT&T and Verizon. This was done to provide coverage for cellular phones in that area. According to both the companies, this move was not because of Senator McCain, the republican presidential nominee’s request but purely for business reasons. McCain is also a member of the Senate Commerce Committee.

If there is a requirement by the Secret Service in order to achieve a particular goal, then the request must be processed by Verizon at no cost as well as provide twenty four hour customer service according to a Verizon spokesperson Jeff Nelson who reported to the New York Times.

Request for service was placed with Verizon in the year 2007 for the Sedona residence by Cindy McCain. Sedona is a minimally populated valley and news of Verizon’s efforts to provide service to the ranch belonging to McCain broke out first in the Washington Post on Wednesday.
Brian Rogers a McCain campaign spokesman spoke to Washington Post to clarify that there was no involvement from the senate in this issue and the request was placed by Mrs.McCain and her staff as a regular procedure just as any public would do.

The 2007 request was in fact refused by Verizon as it did not make business sense according to Mr.Nelson. There was a change in the situation as McCain was nominated for president and received protection from the Secret Service since the month of April.
