Google and Yahoo advertising deal still on hold as talks continue

Talks are on between the US Department of Justice and Google Inc. and Yahoo Inc. in connection with protecting their advertising agreement proposed a few months back says a report published on Tuesday.

Negotiations with the Department of Justice are in the early stages for Yahoo based in Sunnyvale and Google located in Mountain View according to the Wall Street Journal.

Critics who are skeptical about the fact that Google will dominate the advertising space online to a great extent have raised concerns regarding the deal proposed.

The deal which was all set to be finalized in the month of October was delayed due to concerns raised by advertising companies in the US and elsewhere.

Yahoo had issued a statement saying they are in discussion with the regulators and are willing to address any concerns regarding the deal. According to Google, discussion with the Department of Justice is on and they were willing to postpone the deal.

Advertisers from all over the world joined hands with skeptics saying this deal is sure to hurt competition.

The deal stipulates that certain search queries on Yahoo will be matched with Google advertisements and the revenue generated from it will be split between the two companies. This deal is expected to have an impact only on certain websites in North America. However, Canadian and European regulators along with the Justice Department and State attorneys generals are reviewing the deal.

This partnership was also criticized by one of the advertising associations from the US, which is a member of the World Advertising Federation.
