2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC Revealed as Sleek Replacement for GLK-Class

New Compact SUV Drops the Angular Styling of Its Predecessor

HAVERHILL, Mass., 07/03/2015 /SubmitPressRelease123/

As its name might suggest, the recently revealed 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class SUV shares more in common with the redesigned 2015 C-Class sedan than it does with the GLK-Class that it will replace. With sales of the stylish Mercedes-Benz C-Class up by 28 percent through May of this year, that appears to be a wise decision by Mercedes-Benz as it looks to reclaim its stake in the extremely popular compact SUV segment.

In addition to sharing a platform with the latest C-Class, the 2016 GLC sports a similar two-slat grille with an oversized three-pointed star emblem, as well as large swept-back headlights that will be available with the full LED treatment. Though it trades the boxier silhouette of the GLK-Class for sculpted flanks and a coupe-like greenhouse, the new GLC will still be a highly functional SUV, offering more interior space, a 28-degree approach and departure angles, and nearly an inch of extra ground clearance. Under the hood, a standard 241-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine will be paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission, and buyers will be able to choose between standard rear-wheel drive and available 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive.

“Sometimes an SUV’s versatility can be sacrificed in the name of style, but the new GLC-Class will be both sleeker and more practical as the replacement for the GLK-Class,” said James Buckley, general manager of Smith Motor Sales, a Mercedes-Benz dealer in Haverhill, Mass. “Combine those qualities with a beautifully designed interior and advanced technology features, and you’ve got a very popular luxury SUV on your hands.”

Once again pulling from the C-Class, the 2016 GLC features a waterfall-style panel that flows from a large media display on the dashboard downward to a touchpad and COMAND Controller on the center console. Buyers will receive brown linden wood as the standard trim, while other options will include burl walnut in high-gloss brown, black open-pore ash or a piano-black lacquer appearance. When it goes on sale this November, the 2016 GLC will also be available with a range of driver-assistance technologies, including standard features like ATTENTION ASSIST, COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS, Active Highbeam Assist and Crosswind Assist.
