Redesigned 2016 Chevy Malibu Goes Big in the Big Apple

Longer, Lighter and Stronger Midsize Sedan Makes a Bold Debut

WATERVILLE, Maine, 04/10/2015 /SubmitPressRelease123/

The redesigned 2016 Chevy Malibu is nearly 300 pounds lighter than its predecessor, but it is hard to tell when looking at its strong stance and sculpted exterior. Revealed at the New York International Auto Show earlier this month, the 2016 Malibu midsize sedan is nearly 4 inches longer in its wheelbase and about 2 inches longer overall, and it uses that extra length to showcase the sleek silhouette created by its low hood, fastback roofline and flowing creases along its flanks.

Underneath its expressive sheet metal, the new Chevy Malibu accounts for more than a third of its weight savings with the extensive use of high-strength steel, which also boosts the strength of its body structure. Those nimbler underpinnings will be propelled by an all-new standard 1.5-liter Ecotec turbocharged four-cylinder engine that is predicted to produce 160 horsepower. In addition to an available 250-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, buyers will also be able to opt for the all-new 2016 Chevy Malibu Hybrid, which is estimated by General Motors to return a segment-leading 47 mpg in combined city and highway driving.

“The midsize sedan class is highly competitive, but Chevy has gone all in with its new Malibu and the car looks poised to disrupt the natural order of sales in its segment when it arrives late this year,” said Bo Hendrick, general sales manager of Central Maine Motors, a Chevy dealership in Waterville, Maine. “The 2016 Malibu has all the characteristics that a car needs to attract today’s shoppers, whether it is standout styling, spaciousness, fuel efficiency or technology.”

As a result of the 2016 Malibu’s increased length, rear passengers will enjoy an extra 1.3 inches of legroom, and they will even be able to freely browse the Web on their mobile devices thanks to available segment-exclusive OnStar 4G LTE in-vehicle connectivity. Drivers will be able to stay connected on the road with the optional Chevy MyLink touchscreen infotainment system. When it comes to safety, Chevy’s redesigned midsize sedan will be available with a range of driver-assistance technologies, including new features like Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning and Forward Collision Alert with Following Distance Indicator. For concerned parents of high school students, a new optional Teen Driver feature will help prevent distracted or reckless driving by sending audible and visual speed warnings and muting all audio when a front occupant isn’t wearing their seatbelt.
