The second world Human Rights Forum, which took place this year from 27 to 30 November in Marrakesh under the High Patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, was distinguished by the large range of activities proposed to the participants including workshops on a variety of topics, commemoration, and cultural programs.
Based on the work of the Scientific Committee and the proposals submitted by several NGOs, several forums were proposed as spaces for debate aiming to make an assessment of the current situation of human rights and highlighting emerging issues.
The discussion covered issues such as:
•Access to Justice and Human Rights
•Alternative and Community Media: Strong leverage for democracy and citizenship
•Business and Human Rights
•Citizen security and the protection of human rights
•Disability and Human Rights
•From Rhetoric to Effectiveness: Assessing Change 20 Years After Beijing
•Legislation Drafting and the Promotion of Human Rights
•Religious Traditions and Human Rights
•The City and Human Rights
•The Right to Water: A vast human rights field
•The abolition of the death penalty, a universal dynamic
•The implementation of economic, social and cultural rights and justice
•Discrimination and human rights
•Free Trade Agreements, Neighborhood Policy and its Impact on Human Rights
•Migration Dynamics: At the Crossroads of Experiences and Perspectives
•Right to the Environment and Climate Justice Save the planet: The Right and Duty for Sustainable Development
•Social, solidarity and environmental economy: All human rights and obligations
•The interaction of States with UN Mechanisms for The Promotion and Protection of Human Rights
•Youth Rights and International Human Rights Law: Current statute and development avenues
At the cultural level , the forum proposed local, national and international cultural programs combining the colors of diversity and pluralism with openness to the world.
Participants were invited to visit exhibitions halls for art addressing the following thematic issues:
•Do not walk upon my rights
•Stamps for Human Rights
•On the Road to Universal Abolition
•Death Penalty is not justice
•International Day of Solidarity with Palestine (The WHRF participates in the campaign on “Building Solidarity for Palestinian Refugees”, initiated by UNRWA. A giant photo was exhibited on a wall of the city)
Entertainment also included music (Grupo Tonomec, Argentinean music, Bailarina de Tongo y folklore), Carnival for Rights, Marathon for Rights.
