Kumon Opens After-School Learning Center in West Arvada

Entrepreneur Brings Passion for Education to Community

08/21/2014 (press release: michelle2020) // Arvada, CO, U.S. // Kiko Steinbarth

Kumon Math and Reading Center of Arvada West is celebrating its grand opening in west Arvada at 12650 W. 64th Ave., Unit H, at the corner of W. 64th Ave. and Ward Rd. To celebrate, local educator and entrepreneur Kiko Yoshikawa Steinbarth, with the Arvada Chamber of Commerce, is hosting a ribbon-cutting event at the center on Monday, August 25, 2014 at 4:00pm.

Kumon’s individualized approach helps children progress by ability rather than age or grade. In the U.S., more than 265,000 students from preschool to high school are developing their math and reading skills independently and gaining confidence through Kumon’s Method of Learning. The Kumon Math and Reading Center of Arvada West joins the more than 1,300 U.S. instructors committed to helping children excel through the ability-based program.

“Our mission is to enhance Arvada’s already strong academic record by introducing youth to Kumon’s unique learning method,” said Kumon Math and Reading Center of Arvada West owner, Kiko Yoshikawa Steinbarth. “Our center believes every child is capable of greatness, and our dedicated staff members look forward to helping Arvada youth grow academically and personally.”

Steinbarth saw her own two children, fellow college mates, and students at the Chicago center at which she worked develop a love of learning through Kumon, as well as discipline, accuracy and focus. As a result of their success, she was inspired to open her own Kumon franchise. Prior to opening the center, Kiko spent 13 years working in marketing as well as managing two international franchises headquartered in Tokyo, Japan.

In a report published in Education Next, Teaching Math to the Talented,” 33 countries, including Taiwan, China, South Korea and Finland significantly outperformed American students. America’s shortage of advanced students impacts its future economic growth, and is the reason Steinbarth is passionate about students’ academic success. More than half of Kumon’s U.S. students study advanced math, and more than 26 percent of these students are two to three years above grade level.
