341 Live, LLC is pleased to announce that the addition of the new Big Whiskey Saloon & Dancehall to its downtown Morgantown entertainment district known as 341 Live. The ground floor space which was formerly occupied by Dragonfly Sushi has been under construction since mid 2012.
The opening of Big Whiskey represents Phase II of the 341 Live District which is located in the heart of downtown Morgantown, West Virginia. Phase I of the project included the opening of the Rocktop Bar & Grill [which opened last May]. Phase III of the project is slated to open in late 2013 and will include two additional concepts: Revolver Nightclub and a new upscale 41-room boutique hotel called The Chestnut Hotel.
“We are extremely excited to see the Big Whiskey concept come to life,” said Kevin Wilkey, CEO of Lush Hospitality Group, who has consulted with the ownership group on the development of the 341 Live District starting with the Rocktop Bar & Grill. “The idea was to create a strong variation of concepts that would appeal to everyone and ultimately provide a one-stop destination in the heart of America’s premier party-town.”
“The reception we received last year from our Nashville Concert Series at the Rocktop confirmed that there was a huge appetite for country music in this market and we think Big Whiskey is perfectly poised to be a fun, energetic concept that will appeal to everyone regardless if they are a country music fan,” says Wilkey.
“I really think [the country theme] is going to increase the demographic for the 341 Live District and add some new energy to downtown Morgantown” said Joe Panico, who leads the ownership group at 341 Live, LLC.
According to Panico, the transition from former sushi restaurant to Big Whiskey has been a long process. “We completely gutted the space to start fresh and create an entirely new feel. It’s just been amazing to see it all come together.”
Big Whiskey now features a long-straight bar built from vintage barn wood in the main bar along with a new stage and DJ booth . The half moon stage now sits where the sushi bar formerly resided providing patrons with a street-side view of the entertainers performing on stage and the new design provides a large open dance floor for patrons to enjoy.
Completing the ambiance inside, Big Whiskey will feature Country music videos playing on the many flat screen TVs during dinner from 4 to 10 p.m. each night and there will be special Happy Hour deals which include not only food and drinks, but also entertainment.
“It’ll be free to ride the mechanical bull during happy hour,” said Panico, noting that the charge to ride at other times will be $5 per person.
In addition to live music, Big Whiskey will feature a house DJ who will spin a good variety of Top 40, House and Dance music, but will also continue to incorporate Country music into his mixes.
“We’ll have a house DJ spinning before and after the band comes on, so I think it’s kind of the best of both worlds,” added Panico.
And if great local entertainment isn’t enough Big Whiskey will also bring a mix of well-known touring acts and up-and-coming stars to the stage. “We have some exciting new acts coming out of Nashville already booked and our focus will be to become a must-stop destination for acts passing thru West Virginia” adds Wilkey.
The Big Whiskey Saloon and Dancehall is slated to open in the late Spring of this year.

The 341 Live District resides in the heart of downtown Morgantown at 341 Chestnut Street, Morgantown WV 26505. The district is being developed in three phases and upon completion will feature four distinct bar, restaurant, and nightclub venues, along with a new upscale 41-room boutique hotel that is slated to open up in the Summer of 2013. The entire project is slated to be completed by early 2014.
