The WiL Power Challenge, a local nonprofit childhood obesity prevention program, has been changing kids lives since 2007. This free educational program kicked off its eighth program on January 7th and provides overweight to obese children with much needed fitness and nutritional guidance from certified trainers and registered dietitians. The comprehensive challenge consists of three workouts a week and weekly nutrition education classes. As research has shown, parent involvement is crucial to the success of children. A parent is required to work out with their child at least once a week, as well as attend the nutrition class each week.
Fun cooking classes, grocery store tours and program-wide workouts (historically with Nathan Shaw, Strength and Conditioning Coach with the Arizona Diamondbacks) keep kids motivated throughout the program. Results have shown increases in self-esteem, improvements in body composition, school performance, sleep and more.
