It was an epic challenge but Flatfish University ™ and Flounder Revolution ® founder Chester Moore exceeded even his own expectations.

To celebrate Mr. Twister/Exude signing on to sponsor to the 2012 Flatfish University ™ clinics, Moore went on the Fall Flounder Run ™ a five-day challenge to catch and release 100 southern flounder on artificial lures.

“I thank the Lord for the incredible experience that was challenged my focus, skill and energy levels. The idea was to celebrate the partnership with Mr. Twister/Exude and to raise awareness to flounder conservation and I think we did just that,” Moore said.

His first day saw him catch 23 flounder, which he felt good about.

“On day two, however I only caught seven as we had high pressure settle in the flounder just did not want to bite. However, on day three I had my best day ever catching 51 flounder and then was able to wrap things up on day four,” Moore said.

A big part of the reason for success was being able to diversify the lures.

“Mr. Twister/Exude has an incredible line of lures that anglers can use for flounder. I caught most on a 2.5-inch Sassy Shad but also used the Meenies and Twister Tails. The key to catching flounder continually is diversity because they are very moody fish and change their preferences on a dime,” Moore said.

During the quest Moore took the barb off of his hooks and avoided over-handling the fish.

“The idea was to catch and release those fish so they could produce more of their kind during the fall run when they are making their way to the Gulf to spawn so I took precautions to make sure those releases were live releases.”

“This project proved that flounder conservation measures enacted in Texas are working as there is no way I could have done this a few years ago. The fish are coming back however there are still conservation issues that need to be addressed for this species on the Gulf Coast,” he added.

Moore will announce his first classes of 2012 Dec. 15 and promises to bring back popular choices from last year like, “Spring and Summer Strategies” and “The Fall Run and Secrets of Winter Flounder Fishing”, however there will be new offerings.

“I will have two new classes next year that I think will help take flounder fishing to a new level. I am super excited about them and will announce those Dec. 15.”
