Hialeah, FL – A man shot and killed four people at a Cuban restaurant before turning the gun on himself on Sunday, June 6, 2010, as reported by The Palm Beach Post. The shooter also injured three others in his rampage.
The shooting began at approximately 10:15 p.m., outside of Yoyito Restaurant in Hialeah, according to police Detective Eddie Rodriguez. He explained that it began as “some sort of domestic dispute.” The restaurant had just closed and some people were still inside.
The man and woman were in the parking lot when he shot her. He then walked into the restaurant and started randomly firing at people. When finished, he walked to his vehicle and drove away.
Police found the shooter a few blocks away from the restaurant. He was found dead of apparent suicide inside the vehicle.
The woman in the parking lot and two others who were in the restaurant were taken to the hospital, according to Rodriguez. The other four shooting victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
All the victims were women. It was unclear if they were employees or customers, as of Monday morning. Police were also unsure whether the gunman had ties to the restaurant.
Regulars gathered outside the restaurant Monday morning, mourning the loss of the women. Octavio Guzman, a regular customer, told reporters the restaurant workers were always generous with the less fortunate. He explained, “You tell anyone here, ‘I’m hungry and I don’t have money,’ and they give it to you.”
