Wells, ME – A camper being towed by a truck rolled after a passing vehicle that made a U-turn cut the truck off on the morning of Saturday May 22, 2010, as reported by www.wmtw.com. The crash killed one and injured others.

The accident occurred along Route 9, where the speed limit is posted at 50 mph, according to reports.

People who were at the yard sale reported an elderly man in a truck was passing by when he saw the sale and made a U-turn directly in front of the truck transporting the camper.

The camper jackknifed and landed on top of two people, according to police. It trapped Jeff Dickerson, 46, of Wells, and his mother-in-law, Claudette Desjardin.

The two were transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland. Dickerson was pronounced dead. Desjardin’s condition was not available, but authorities reported her to be suffering from non-life threatening conditions.

The man in the truck that made the U-turn was identified as David Hoyt Sr., 72. He too was transported to Maine Medical Center.

The family of four that was riding in the truck carrying the camper suffered minor injuries, according to police.

Emergency responders closed the road for six hours while clean up took place.
