Allenport, PA – A 13-year-old boy died Thursday afternoon on May 20, 2010, after he lost control of his all-terrain vehicle, as reported by the Observer-Reporter.

Police reported Michael Keegan, of Allenport, was driving at a high speed on the ATV up a driveway at 5 Town Park, approximately one-third mile from Mt. Tabor Road, when the accident happened.

At approximately 4 p.m., Keegan failed to negotiate a turn and hit a guard rail. Police stated the ATV rolled, which threw the boy off the vehicle and into a tree. He was not wearing a helmet.

The news station WXPI reported a neighbor to the Keegans, Derek Widziskewski, told reporters “His friend that was behind him that called for help noticed he couldn’t reach the brake pedals….He went head-on into this guard rail down here of which he and the quad began flipping several times.”

Keegan’s grandfather bought the family the ATV four days prior to the accident.

Keegan was pronounced dead at Monongahela Valley Hospital at 5:15 p.m. It was stated he died of head trauma.
