West Dallas train hits 18-wheeler

07/30/2009

Dallas railroad accident lawyer, Brian A. Eberstein, with the Texas personal injury law firm of Eberstein and Witherite, informs a semi-truck driver was critically injured when his big rig was struck by a train, in West Dallas last Friday. According to the Dallas Morning News, a Union Pacific train was unable to stop at the railroad crossing at North Westmoreland near Singleton Boulevard on Friday morning and slammed into an 18-wheeler that was stuck on the tracks. The tractor-trailer, which became pinned by the railroad crossing safety gate while crossing the tracks, was struck by the oncoming train at a speed of 35 miles per hour.

Dallas Police Department officials say the 8:30 a.m., Friday morning train accident left the semi-truck driver, who was in the truck’s front cab when the train hit seriously injured. The Union Pacific engineer saw the truck stuck on the tracks, yanked on the brakes, and blared the horns. The tractor-trailer jackknifed into the driver’s side door when the locomotive hit ejecting the driver down the tracks. The Union Pacific train dragged the semi-truck over 100 yards after the crash. The Texas personal injury law firm of Eberstein and Witherite, experienced in train crash cases, says the Texas Department of Transportation states every two hours a person or vehicle in the United States is hit by a train.

The Dallas personal injury lawyers at Eberstein and Witherite, experienced in handling claims filed by victims of railroad accidents, further educates trains are unable to stop quickly because of their heavy weight. With more than 4,000 times more mass and weight than the average car, trains can take up to a mile to come to a complete stop after the engineer applies the locomotive’s brakes. Catastrophic  injuries and deaths are common in train accidents. Dallas railroad accident attorneys, Eberstein and Witherite, help injured Texas and their families recover from their injuries, damages, and losses when a train crash happens. Contacting a Texas personal injury attorney to help you pursue the complexities of a train accident may help you recover damages.
