Class Action Suit Filed Against Pa. Judges
A class action lawsuit has been filed against two judges charged with taking money to send kids to Pennsylvania detention centers.
A civil suit has been filed against two Pennsylvania judges accused of taking kickbacks to send youths accused of mild offenses to serve jail time in privately run detention centers. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Judges Mark Ciavarella and Michael Conahan, both of who presided in Luzerne County, were named in a class action lawsuit along with 14 other defendants. The lawsuit involves hundreds of children who became purported victims of the judges corrupt activities.
Ciavarella and Conahan were charged with taking millions of dollars in kickbacks in exchange for sentencing juveniles brought before their courts to serve months in PA Childcare LLC run detention facilities. The judges pleaded guilty to fraud and are set to serve more than seven years in prison according to terms of their plea agreements.
