Wal-Mart Stores asked to pay compensation to workers
Wal-mart Stores Inc., which is among the nation’s largest discount retail chain of stores, has been slapped with lawsuits filed by worker rights lawyers. Over 63 suits regarding hour and wage abuse have been filed by lawyers defending worker’s rights. Wal- mart has agreed to pay between $352 and $640 million as compensation to all those workers who have been wronged.
Investigators from the U.S. department of Labor or DOL, belonging to the Wage-Hour’s enforcement of FLSA, found that Wal-mart has been abusing its workers by not enforcing the U.S. Fair Labor Standards Act and has been practicing unfair employment practices.
Date gathered by wage and hour specialists belonging to the labor department found lots of violations and discrepancies in employment practices. Employers who fail to implement the Act and who have not complied with the law are made to adopt changes in their employment practices. They are asked to pay compensation to the aggrieved workers.
Charged with 63 lawsuits, Wal-mart has been asked to pay a hefty compensation, on counts of cheating and unfair employment practices. Workers had been made to work round the clock without breaks and pay. Numerous lawsuits against Wal-mart had been filed in many state courts across the nation and in a Nevada federal court. Lawsuits filed in the courts of the states of California, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania is not part of this settlement as they are still pending and no verdict has been declared yet.
