For this second weekend in a single row, the movie lovers in their holiday mood pushed the “four Christmases” as the top movie in the latest box office result. This romantic comedy that features Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon racked up about $ 18.2 millions in the ticket sales. Even though, the film received greatly hostile reviews, this film by Warner Bros. has been a true hit with its audiences, with the two-week total of approximately $70.8 millions.
It was really a powerful weekend all over at box-office in spite of the faltering economy, lack of major newcomer film and weak customer spending. For all the releases, the sum of three days is expected to be $87 millions i.e. a rise of 6.1 percent as compared to the same weekend of the previous year. Also, the revenue of box office was up over the year 2007 for about fifth weekend in the entire row. As per the Media by Numbers’s president, Paul Dergarabedian, ‘In this holiday marketplace, there’s really a movie for every type of cinematic diet. It’s the best of all possible world’s for the moviegoer’.
Richie Fay also attributed this movie’s high ticket sales to the multitude of young audiences who have concentrated on repeat watching with the friends. He further added that the movie is seriously a story of Romeo and Juliet but the Romeo turns out to be a vampire of 17 years. One of the biggest successes of this weekend was the Frost/Nixon by Universal Pictures that opened in the limited release in only three theatres, with one being in Los Angeles. The President of the domestic distribution at the Universal, Nikki Rocco, declared the movie’s great success to the A-list moviemakers, including the popular director, Ron Howard along with a superb story line.
